Kevin Chubb leaves TRT after 20 years

Kevin Chubb (known to most of you as Chubby), TRT’s Managing Director is ending 20 years at the helm and is handing over the reins on the 22nd of December, 2017.

Since 1997, Kevin has led from the front with a team of loyal and enthusiastic people, overseeing the development of TRT’s business through many challenges and significant growth. In November 1997, Kevin became Managing Director. “It has been a great privilege to have played my part in the growth of TRT, working closely with Robert and Bruce in particular with our respective strengths, together combining to make a formidable executive team,” says Kevin.

Kevin takes pride in a number of key business achievements during his 20 years with TRT, championing many developments that have put the company into the position as a leading transport engineering and aftermarket supplier it has today.  These include:

  • Building up a great team of skilled and loyal staff, from around 75 in 1997 to over 200 in 2017, whilst maintaining a terrific culture of hard work, professionalism, and fun!
  • Respected as one of the largest independent heavy transport parts distributors in New Zealand, with 8 service staff, 6 account managers on the road, 2 warehouses and nationwide coverage.
  • Addition of key franchise partners between 2000 and 2010, with Scania, Mercedes, Freightliner, ISUZU, and FUSO.
  • Significant growth in TRT’s facilities over the last 20 years and creation of fully integrated manufacturing facilities at the Hamilton site to ensure that almost all of TRT’s production is completed in-house.
  • Purchase of B&N Cranes PTY Limited (Brisbane) and the Manitowoc Agency for Queensland in to provide the base for future expansion of TRT’s business in Australia.
  • Establishment and maintenance of key business relationships that recently include Nifty-Lift, Australia that enabled TRT to manufacture an insulated elevating work platform for use in utility maintenance.
  • Establishment of the “Annual Long Service Dinner” to recognise the importance and major contributions from the TRT team who have been with the company for more than 10 years, which now has over 45 team members recognised each year.
  • Building up a great team of skilled and loyal staff, from around 75 in 1997 to over 200 in 2017, whilst maintaining a terrific culture of hard work, professionalism, and fun!
  • Establishment of the “Annual Long Service Dinner” to recognise the importance and major contributions from the TRT team who have been with the company for more than 10 years, which now has over 45 team members recognised each year.

“It has been a great privilege to have been a part of this, working closely with Robert and Bruce in particular with our respective strengths, together combining to make a formidable executive team,” says Kevin.

“It’s good to be leaving TRT at a time when the company is in great heart, with strong forward orders, great prospects for future growth,” concludes Kevin.

Bruce Carden, manufacturing director, and Robert Carden, engineering director, with the support of a new chief operating officer, Lawrence Baker, will lead TRT into its next 50 years.
